Microsoft has revealed a brand
new Age of Empires game will be coming to the PC, alongside fully remastered
versions of the original trilogy. The company made the announcement at the
Gamescom video game conference a day after putting its brand new Xbox console
up for pre-order. Often cited as one of the best examples of real-time strategy
gaming, the reaction to a new Age of Empires game has been predictably huge.
It's the first sequel to the franchise since Age of Empires III came out in
2005.
Although it’s not clear whether
that means the new sequel will include all these eras or if the trailer is just
meant as a recap of the series up to this point. Just like the originals, the
fourth game will be a PC exclusive but if you’re not familiar with the series
then a Definitive Edition is due out on October 19, with remasters of the
second and third game arriving at a later date.
